Earbuds or headphones connected but no sound

Your Bluetooth earbuds are connected to your phone or laptop, but there's no sound. How do you fix it?
Fix it in 3 steps:
Connected to the right device?
Quick check: are your earbuds connected to the right device? Your phone, for example?

Keep in mind that your earbuds always try to connect to the last connected device. Was your laptop the last device you connected to? And is Bluetooth still on on your laptop? Then your Bluetooth earbuds will connect straight to your laptop when you open the charging case and the earbuds enter pairing mode.
Turn up your earbuds' volume
It's almost always the same problem: your volume is at 0%. You need to turn up the volume on your earbuds so you can hear your music. Are you turning up the volume on your phone but still hearing nothing? You've probably set your earbuds and phone to have separate volume controls, without meaning to.
The earbuds' volume is at 0%. Adjusting the volume on your phone won't help: no sound will come from your earbuds or headphones.
Do your wireless earbuds or headphones have touch controls or buttons? You can usually use those to turn up the volume. For example, tap the right earbud 1 time or press and hold the right button. On headphones, you often need to swipe or slide upward on the right ear cup. This turns up the volume. Keep going until the volume feels comfortable.
Sync your phone's volume with your earbuds
So the problem was, or still is, that you were trying to turn up the volume on your phone while the earbuds' volume was at 0%.
The solution is simple: sync your Bluetooth volume with your phone. Instead of 2 separate volume controls, one for your earbuds and one for your phone, you'll have 1 volume control. Whether you turn up the sound on your phone or your earbuds, you're always adjusting the same volume control.
