Job opening: wireless earbuds writer (earbud tester)
Contents
With a monthly budget of €1000, we're looking for someone with a way with words and an ear for earbuds. Do you enjoy writing? And writing about earbuds? Then we'd love to work with you. Join Eardopes as a writer to test the latest earbuds on the market and write blog posts and reviews about them.
You can also apply now.
- This is a freelance role. You send an invoice for each blog post you write.
Pay
Of course, you'll be paid for your reviews and blog posts. Our monthly budget for hiring bloggers/writers/testers is €1000. The rate per post or per word depends on your experience and the quality of your work. It's important to us that you feel motivated to write a good post. That includes pay that encourages you.
How many writers are we looking for?
We're looking for 1 or 2 writers. A smaller team builds knowledge about audio and earbuds faster than a larger team sharing the reviews.
About Eardopes
Today, eardopes.com is an online store for wireless earbuds. So we're more of a retailer now. But reviews still bring some of the traffic (visitors) to our website. Blogging has taken a back seat. And it deserves better!
That's why we're looking for you, our next earbud reviewer.
Practical details about writing:
- Everything is explained in our detailed, clear and comprehensive writing guide. We put it together to maintain quality when outsourcing our blog posts.
- You receive the earbuds from us, review them and send them back to us for free
- You take photos and compress them to under 100kb
- You record 1 short voice clip with the earbuds so visitors can hear how the mic sounds (we'll explain how. It's very easy). Here's an example: https://eardopes.nl/blogs/draadloze-oordopjes/jabra-elite-7-pro-review#microfoon (yours doesn't need to be that long).
- You share your opinion in the review or blog post. Feel free to be outspoken, as long as you have a solid foundation of earbud knowledge. You'll probably know less when writing your first post than your 10th. That's fine. You can be more outspoken in your 10th post than your 1st.
- You send us the blog post
- This can be in HTML or a Word document
- You upload the review to our system (Shopify) yourself. We publish it.
- We have a template with 5 to 7 headings for you to fill in. That means our review posts always follow the same structure.
Writing requirements:
- Sentences that flow well
- Not a word too many, while keeping your writing lively and descriptive so readers can picture the experience.
- HTML knowledge helps (and if you don't have it, you'll need to be enough of a tech nerd to learn. Don't let this requirement put you off. We have clear guides with video explanations. You'll get the hang of it.
- A little AI is fine: You can use AI to help you write, as long as it stays a tool. Make it personal and describe the experience.
- Write from the reader's perspective: Not: "The earbuds have -30dB ANC." Instead: "You notice it as soon as you put them in: everything around you goes dead. Well, not actually dead. But the sound disappears completely. Yes, the ANC works well. You can hear that right away."
- Show, don't tell: Don't just list a specification (visitors can find that anywhere). Describe what it means for the reader who might soon be wearing those earbuds. Not: "There's an app available for the Sony earbuds." Instead: "Sony has an app. For iOS and Android. I tested the Android version thoroughly. My verdict: useful, but I was hoping for a little more customization. You can choose a sound profile, for example. But why can't I adjust each frequency myself with an equalizer?"
- Don't get lost in the details: The review shouldn't be an exercise in splitting hairs (excuse the expression). No nitpicking. No dwelling on tiny technical details. Not: "The frequency response graph is V-shaped" (don't worry if you don't know what that means). Instead: "The earbuds are a bit heavy on bass. You'll need to like that."
- No walls of text: Mix up the content in your post: a short paragraph, an image, another paragraph, bullet points, a heading, some text, an audio clip, more text, a numbered list (1,2,3..) and so on. You know paragraphs shouldn't get too long and need to be broken up. You can bold a section now and then, when it's relevant.
- All requirements are covered in our documentation. Of course, you'll get access.
About you
- You're constructive and positive
- You don't settle for average
- Writing good content is your passion. It's not just something you do on the side
- You're free to work from anywhere (in other words, we don't mind where in the world you live or where you're from)
- You make few spelling mistakes
- You can write at least 1 blog post per month
- You're creative: You keep finding better ways to explain things. Would an infographic make something clearer? Then you'll create one in a tool like Canva.
