POGS headphones sound quality

These POGS kids headphones sound good for children. We put them through the same critical sound check we normally use for grown-up earbuds and headphones. Overall, the sound is pleasant. There's some bass, but not enough to satisfy an audiophile. Kids headphones have different priorities: safety, durability and a playful character. Compared with other kids headphones, POGS do well.

Sound quality score: 6.5

The catch is that this section of the review is about sound quality. And there isn't much bass. The mids and highs, however, are clear and clean.

See our comparison article on the best headphones for kids, too.

One upside is that less bass makes it a little easier to hear surrounding sounds. That's useful when you need to give your child a little direction. As a parent, you're a bit more likely to be heard. Always handy.

The sound doesn't cut out at all. The connection is very stable, and you can still hear the audio about 10 meters from the device. In practice, your child will rarely be that far away. POGS are mostly useful when your child wants to watch a fun video in the back seat on a long car ride, for example. Not when they're out walking. That's much more fun, and safer, without headphones.

💡 Kids headphones shouldn't have overly bass-heavy tuning. That's safest for your child's hearing.

POGS headphones safety

Safety is, of course, one reason to buy headphones made for kids rather than regular headphones or earbuds.

If your child listens to regular headphones with the volume 2 notches too high, will they tell you? The hearing damage could be serious. But enough scaremongering!

POGS headphones have a built-in volume limit. They simply can't go any louder. Not even if your child lies on the couch with their headphones pressing against the volume + button. It just can't happen. POGS keep the volume in check with a maximum limit. Smart and safe!

Another neat safety feature is the cable: if it suddenly catches on something, it pulls out of the headphones. Your child can carry on with whatever enthusiastic move they were making. At least the headphones won't hold them back.

The same applies when the headphones are connected to another pair. Wait, two pairs of headphones connected to each other? Yes, you heard that right. More on that later. For now, the important part is this: if 2 kids are connected by a headphone cable and suddenly head in different directions, the headphones disconnect easily. No 'funny home video' moment. Good to know!

Finally, we have to give POGS credit for how flexible these headphones are. Because however much kids love their headphones, they don't always treat them with much sympathy.

The nice thing is that the headphones bend easily. In every direction! Then they spring right back into their intended shape. Handy!

💡 The headphones light up on the sides. Not a bright light, just a cozy glow. In the shape of a little tent.

Fit: how do POGS headphones feel?

Kids headphones need to grow with your child, so an adjustable fit is essential.

Fit: 7.5

POGS have put some thought into this, in a way that fits their brand perfectly.

POGS kids headphones size adjustment

You can set the size using the number of little tents on the headphones. No boring numbers, just fun little tents. A thoughtful touch!

⛺ = for the littlest ones
⛺⛺ = for slightly bigger little ones
⛺⛺⛺ = for bigger kids

After a long day sledding in the snow or spending time at the beach, this POGS buddy gives your little one a cozy bubble while you prepare dinner. You can get the food ready while your child stays happily occupied. A win-win!

POGS headphones controls

The controls use physical buttons. A good choice. They're reliable. Touch controls would have been another option, but we'd advise against those, especially on kids headphones.

There are just 3 buttons:

  • The power button
  • The play/pause button
  • The Bluetooth button

A missed opportunity
Who presses pause most often? Us parents. Not the child, especially when they're only 6. That pause button is mostly for parents who need to bring their child out of their headphone cocoon because "dinner's ready."

So why is the pause button so small? And why is it on the underside of the headphones? It should be big and on the side. It shouldn't be too easy to press, though. Otherwise, the headphones would pause every time your child lies down. And you'd have to stop cooking again.

The pause button should be like an emergency stop button on the side: impossible to miss. About 3 cm wide. But that's just our opinion. Other parents may well disagree. Let us know in the comments below! We'd love to hear what you think!

Controls: 6

Battery: how long do the headphones last?

You can use these headphones for 12 hours straight. That's a lot! We looked for the battery capacity in mAh, but couldn't find it.

Battery: 8.5

We did test roughly how long the headphones last at a normal volume. And the 12-hour figure is about right.

Conclusion: are POGS headphones any good?

Score
Sound 6.5
Fit 7.5
Battery 8.5
Controls 6
Connection stability 8
