The short answer: AfterShokz and Shokz are exactly the same. Shokz is simply the new name, and AfterShokz is the old name.

AfterShokz has been a bone conduction headphones brand since 2016. These headphones send sound to your eardrum through vibrations in your cheekbone (the bone above your cheek).
On January 1, 2022, AfterShokz got a new name: Shokz.
In short, both brands are exactly the same. Shokz is just a new brand name. Short and sweet, they must have thought.
Why the rebrand to Shokz?
According to the company, Shokz is shorter and catchier. Another reason is that the 'o' is the visual focal point of the word Shokz. And the 'o' is a phonetic sound. It conveys sound transmission.
What's more, research shows that we're exposed to huge amounts of brand names, text, and other communication, and that a short brand name is easier for people to remember.
With that in mind, Shokz (as it's now called) has clearly thought this change through.
AfterShokz models keep their names
You can still buy the old AfterShokz models. Online stores clearly show both AfterShokz and Shokz models. The AfterShokz models are the 2021 models, and the Shokz models are the headphones from before the name change on January 1, 2022.
