DunRock Bubble earbuds with ANC review

The DunRock Bubble: true wireless earbuds with ANC, transparency mode, 4 ENC microphones and much more. But what about sound quality and fit? And are the ANC and microphone really that good? In this review, you'll find out whether to buy the DunRock Bubble or look elsewhere.

In this article

Pros and cons

These are the pros and cons of the DunRock Bubble. You can see at a glance whether these earbuds are right for you.

Pros Cons
✔️Solid ANC
✔️Balanced sound
✔️Good mic.

❌Not for bassheads

First, the review's conclusion. That's probably what you came for:

Our test verdict:

The DunRock Bubble are excellent earbuds. That goes for their balanced sound, microphone (listen to the recording in this review), fit and ANC.

They're feature-packed earbuds with useful features at a fair price. They're less suitable for true bassheads who like excessive bass.

If you like balanced sound, with highs, mids, lows and sub-bass all present and working together, the DunRock Bubble are a very good choice.

DunRock Bubble sound quality

The DunRock Bubble are a pleasure to listen to. Not earbuds for bassheads, but balanced across the full range. I'd almost call them monitors rather than earbuds. IEMs. But that might be giving wireless earbuds a little too much credit. One thing is certain: these earbuds will pleasantly surprise an audiophile.

It took me a while to realize that you need to position the earbuds properly in your ears. Specifically, the stem needs to point down, close to your jaw. This is also explained in the clear Dutch manual. And you really notice the difference: the bass in particular only comes through properly when you position the earbuds correctly. More so than with other earbuds.

Sound quality score: 8

With this type of earbud (wireless earbuds under €100), the mids and highs often don't come through properly. The music almost always lacks that real spark. Not with these: a guitar string and a hi-hat sound like you're right there in the studio.

I listen to Jefferson Airplane a lot. Not exactly typical for a 35-year-old. I can't really talk about them with people my age, either. But I don't think music has ever been made quite like that since. Emotion, depth and art: that's how I'd describe music from that era, let's say the late '60s and early '70s.

Why is this relevant? Because many earbuds can't reproduce the full sound of the guitar in Paul Kantner's hands. That means the sharp attack of the string, the note itself, but also the low tones the guitar produces. Most earbuds can't do that. Artificially boosted bass usually drowns out the rest of the plucked string. And there goes the experience. These DunRock Bubble can reproduce it properly, in full.

This (Embryonic Journal) is usually one of the tracks I play when testing earbuds. I know the song and its notes by heart.

🤐 It's no secret. Know that Jefferson Airplane song? What a lovely track. Beautiful music can be so 'simple'.

Where were we? Oh, right! The DunRock Bubble: I got completely distracted. There you go. You can only get carried away by music when the sound is truly good. And as you saw, I ended up lost in Jefferson Airplane.

All in all, these DunRock Bubble are excellent when it comes to sound.

Microphone: calls with the DunRock Bubble

What about the microphone? It's good. Much better than on €50 earbuds, though not as good as on top-end models. Then again, I recorded a sample, and comparing it with the AirPods Pro recording, for example, I honestly don't think the difference is that big.

Being able to make calls with these earbuds matters. And let's not forget online meetings these days.

Microphone score: 9

3 reasons I like these microphones:

  1. They have ENC: a filter that removes background noise.
  2. They have transparency mode: turn it on when you call someone so you can hear your own voice clearly (always nice).
  3. The microphone itself picks up your voice well, and the full range of your speech comes through clearly.

That last point (number 3) may be the most important: people can hear you clearly. So these are good earbuds for calls and video meetings.

Hear that? For the first 2 seconds, the earbud, and especially its ENC technology, is working to reproduce my voice as clearly as possible.

After 2 seconds, my voice is crystal clear. ENC is essentially a self-learning system. AI. I know: you're probably tired of those 2 letters, AI. But here, it helps the person on the other end hear your voice. And that's useful. I genuinely think these are the best earbuds under €100 for microphone quality.

The DunRock Bubble also connect easily to your laptop:

That's useful during inspiring online meetings. And during less inspiring online meetings too (roughly 99% of them). Sorry, I'm sharing a few too many opinions about meetings. Either way, I used them a lot during meetings, and they worked well.

Fit: how do the DunRock Bubble feel?

The DunRock Bubble fit well, but there's a knack to it. You need to get the angle right. The earbud's stem should run close to your cheek or jaw, rather than sticking out.

That really matters, because the first time I wore these earbuds, I didn't think the sound was all that good. Why do I think differently now? Exactly: I'm wearing them correctly, with the stem close to my cheek.

The included manual, which is entirely in Dutch, a refreshing change, describes it like this:

DunRock Bubble fit close to the cheek

I'd rather show you from the front. On the left is the wrong way to wear them, and on the right is the correct way. It really does help the sound come through. The bass in particular suddenly becomes audible.

Earbud fit close to your cheek

The earbuds have an oval shape. That matches your ear canals, which are oval too. Not round. I'm not an ear canal denier for openly questioning whether ear canals are round. Really: your ear canal is oval. Not round.

Fit score: 8

The earbud slides neatly into your ear. That's thanks to the oval ear tip, the slight downward bend in the design (which is why the earbuds can, and should, point down close to your face), and the size of the housing. It's not too big. All of that helps them fit, even in smaller ears.

DunRock Bubble earbuds review

As you can see, they're fairly small. That helps the fit. And I don't have huge, chunky fingers, so the photo isn't misleading. They're less than 30 millimeters long. That's comparable to the AirPods Pro, for example. The DunRock Bubble are actually slightly smaller.

Besides being compact, the earbuds are solidly built. The outer face has a glossy finish, while the rest of the housing is matte.

The stem has both advantages and disadvantages. The advantages:

  • You can easily grip the stem and position the earbuds properly in your ears without touching the controls.
  • The microphone sits closer to your mouth. That gives it a head start in picking up your voice as clearly as possible.

Possible disadvantages:

  • It makes the earbud bigger

Still, I don't think they're particularly big. I've used them outdoors too. Wind can be very annoying with some earbuds, but these pick up very little wind noise. You can even listen to music while cycling. If you're careful, of course. Cycling or being out in traffic with earbuds in isn't the safest way to get around.

ANC: how good is the noise canceling?

Press and hold the right earbud to turn on active noise cancelling. The best place to test it is in a quiet room. Just kidding, of course. But that's exactly how I was testing the noise canceling on these DunRock Bubble: at my laptop in the living room. Not the right place.

Wondering what noise canceling is? See our explanation of ANC.

It wasn't until I took these earbuds on a train, then tested them properly in the car while on vacation in Spain, that I realized how pleasant the ANC is. And that it works well, too.

Testing DunRock Bubble in Spain

ANC score: 8,5

Especially in places with low, steady sounds, the ANC works, yes, I'm going to say it, brilliantly. Press and hold the right earbud, and you hear a sound as if everything is imploding, then *niets*. Or at least, much less noise. From the engine, the plane, the street and so on. What a relief.

The DunRock Bubble's ANC is good at filtering out low, steady sounds (engines, vacuum cleaners and so on). You can still hear sudden, high-pitched sounds, like a pen tapping on a table, through the earbuds. They're quieter, but the earbuds can't filter them out.

All in all, I'm pleased with the DunRock Bubble's noise canceling. These earbuds do a good job of filtering out steady sounds.

Earbud controls

Both earbuds have a touch control surface. A small indentation shows you where it is.

Showing the DunRock Bubble

The touch controls work pretty much every time. I haven't yet tapped the touch surface and had it fail to respond. So no complaints there.

Controls: 8

How do the DunRock Bubble touch controls work?

Left Right
1x Volume down Volume up
2x Music: pause/play
Calls: answer/end
Music: pause/play
Calls: answer/end
3x Voice assistant/Siri Next track
1.5 sec. Game mode / normal mode ANC / normal / transparency

A reset (restoring factory settings) is easy too. If you're interested, see our full explanation of what a reset does. Resetting earbuds is often a hassle, but the DunRock Bubble have a simple button inside the charging case. Press and hold it, and the earbuds are reset. It can be that easy.

Battery: how long can you use the earbuds?

30 hours of listening without recharging. That's what the DunRock Bubble promise. But what does it actually mean?

It means that with a full charging case, you can use the earbuds for 30 hours without having to recharge the case.

To clarify:

  1. The earbuds charge inside the charging case (you don't need to plug a cable into the case while the earbuds are charging inside it).
  2. Take the earbuds out of the charging case and use them to listen to music.
  3. After use (for example, 5 hours of music), put them back in the charging case (the earbuds now recharge).
  4. You can do this several times, for a total of 30 hours of music.

The charging case has a 380 mAh battery. That's about average for this type of earbud. Each earbud has a 50mAh battery.

DunRock Bubble packaging

I used the earbuds on vacation and drove all over Andalusia in a rental car. Sometimes I drove for 7 hours, for example from Pamplona to Córdoba. That's pretty much across the whole of Spain. Whatever takes your fancy.

I listened to music and podcasts the whole way. They never ran out of battery. One important detail, though: I stopped for food in Madrid after about 5 hours. I left them in the car while I ate. And yes, they recharge then.

Battery score: 7

In short: I used them heavily, and they genuinely never ran out of battery during use. You can get at least 5 hours out of them, and I think even more. It also depends on volume and noise canceling. But in the car, when I used them for 5+ hours, I had ANC on the whole time.

Conclusion: are the DunRock Bubble any good?

Rating
Sound 8
Microphone 9
Fit 8
Battery 7
Controls 8
ANC 8,5

For value, ANC, sound, microphone quality and fit, the DunRock Bubble are good earbuds.
