SoundPEATS H1 Premium review

The SoundPEATS H1 Premium are the odd ones out in the SoundPEATS lineup. They're the only earbuds that started as a Kickstarter campaign. They launched with plenty of fanfare. But are they worth it?

SoundPEATS H1 sound quality

SoundPEATS is known for its rich, full sound. Not a subwoofer in your ear with heavy, excessive bass. Just balanced sound.

The SoundPEATS H1 Premium are no exception. The bass has a nice presence. Just enough without overpowering the mids. Those mids come through beautifully too, forming the foundation of the sound.

Sound quality score: 7.5

Compare them with the Eardopes B6 Pro and you'll hear more bass from the B6 Pro. That's not necessarily better. It depends on your preference.

The highs come through nicely too, without becoming irritating. Excessive treble often causes listening fatigue over longer sessions. That's certainly not an issue here.

One thing worth noting: do you love heavy bass and a pumping sound? Then look for other earbuds rather than these SoundPEATS.

Microphone: are the SoundPEATS H1 good for calls?

The H1 microphone is what we've come to expect from SoundPEATS: good. Your voice sounds clear and is easy to understand. There's no technology to filter out background noise, but that doesn't work perfectly on more expensive earbuds either.

Microphone score: 7

The recording volume, which is what matters during calls, is good enough too. That's another area where earbuds sometimes fall short.

If you go for a walk in strong winds, though, almost any earbud will struggle. Microphones and wind just don't mix.

All in all, these SoundPEATS are among the best earbuds with a mic in this price range.

Fit: how do the SoundPEATS H1 feel?

SoundPEATS H1 review: earbud fit

The earbuds fit well, but you can tell the balanced armatures needed some room inside the housing. That makes them a bit bulky in your ears, much like the SoundPEATS Truengine 3 SE. Those earbuds are getting a little dated, though. Overall, SoundPEATS struggles to make earbuds with a truly great fit. Take Jabra, which released the Jabra Elite 7 Pro in late 2021. Those really do fit like a glove. But they also cost a bit more.

They work well for me and sit nicely in my outer ears, but I suspect the Sonics will fit many people better.

Fit score: 7

SoundPEATS has done its best to fit the dual drivers into the housing, but there's still room for improvement. That's why we've given them this score.

Earbud controls

These earbuds have touch controls, not buttons. That's fine, as long as they work. And they do. Just place your finger on an earbud and it responds. Thankfully, the touch area covers the entire earbud, so you can't miss it.

Controls: 8

The only downside is that SoundPEATS doesn't have an app, so you can't customize the earbuds. You can't choose which function goes with each touch gesture.

How do the SoundPEATS H1 touch controls work?

Left Right
1x Volume down Volume up
2x Music: pause/play
Calls: answer/hang up
Music: pause/play
Calls: answer/hang up
3x Voice assistant/Siri Voice assistant/Siri
1.5 sec. Previous track/video Next track/video

4+ sec.

Power off/on Power off/on

To us, these are the most logical touch controls. No surprises and nothing that will get annoying over time.

Battery: how long can you use the earbuds?

SoundPEATS H1 review

500 mAh in the charging case and 60mAh in each earbud. Decent numbers. You can also find earbuds with 1000mAh, but we consider 500 mAh the minimum for earbuds in this price range.

Battery score: 7

The earbuds themselves have 60 mAh. Again, nothing to write home about, but nothing to mark them down for either. You can listen to music for around 7 hours before they need charging.

Conclusion: are the SoundPEATS H1 any good?

Score
Sound 8
Microphone 7
Fit 7
Battery 7
Controls 8
ANC x

These are good earbuds for the price. The sound is nicely balanced. The microphone is very good in normal use, but struggles in extreme conditions such as wind. The fit is good. The battery is about what we'd expect, and the controls are better than average.

Alternatives

SoundPEATS H1 vs. Eardopes B6 Pro

The H1 has a more balanced sound. The B6 Pro has more bass than the H1.

The Eardopes B6 Pro wins on battery capacity. The H1 has 500 mAh, compared with 1000 mAh in the Eardopes B6 Pro. The H1 earbuds themselves, not the case, also have smaller batteries: 60 mAh versus 80 mAh for the Eardopes B6 pro.

The microphones are on par. The H1 microphone might be slightly worse, but not significantly. We've compared all the mics here.
